Playoffs Live 2012 - Sunday

April 17th, 2012

By Sunday morning, throats were soarer, hangovers were worse, victories had been had and stakes had risen.  That, and the production quality of the Podcast improved slightly!

The Old Windmill Inn was our home for the second day of the weekend and the atmosphere started a little more subdued but, as the beer started to flow (responsibly), things picked up.

The Sunday show featured period-by-period coverage of the Saturday game - including Ben managing to totally miss Cingel's slash on Heywood and just see the aftermath like some sort of rubbish ref - and, of course, a preamble to the final.

Not just that but we had a little chat with Tom Duggan as he geared-up for the big game and we were joined by Phoenix owner, Neil Morris to discuss the Rumour Mill.  A couple of big hints from Mr Morris about what's going on with the leagues.  A rumour about Wiggins.  A rumour about Ryan Finnerty - yeah, just check Ben's reaction to that one.

Nigel McFarlane joins us on the phone and there's music from The Kickliner (http://www.myspace.com/thekickliner), a bit more from Kranius and Stalagmites.

You know what?  This live show is 100 minutes of podcasty goodness and we are spoiling you.  So there.

Keep an eye out for the rumour mill round-up show in a few weeks.  Until then, let the summer begin!

Playoffs Live 2012 - Saturday

April 16th, 2012

With the Playoffs been and gone and people's hangovers just about subsiding, we thought you might like to relive the rollercoaster ride once more with the live shows delivered to your Android/Apple device (or wherever you normally put them).

On the Saturday show, we were joined at the Old Windmill Pub (the Phoenix's official playoff pub) by Carl Graham and by John Neville.

Carl talks about the standard of the EPL and the increase in the physical side of the game these days.

John gives us his insight on the league and the state of play with Planet Ice at the end of a difficult season.

Not just that but we have the Podcast Pundits' Quiz - see how well you do! - and all of your Podcasty friends like Kate Glover (EPLUpdates), Mark Woodcock (theangrybudgie), Richard Allan (Phoenix Photographer), MK Rob (Top Shelf) and  Jim Piper (Phoenix TV/Phoenix Podcast).  Of course, there's a bit of Mr Predictor and loads more besides.

Music comes courtesy of Kranius- http://www.myspace.com/kranius -  (friends of the show and provider's of this series' theme tune) and from Stalagmites (http://stalagmites.bandcamp.com/album/rainbow-reptile).

Thanks to Nathan Morley (via RadioDaddy.com) for the VO work and to Producer Alex Seewald.  Also, thanks to Kate, Jim and Richard for their help.

Of course, thanks to The Old Windmill Inn (and to Michelle Gilmour for her great services to the show) - http://www.old-windmill-inn.co.uk/.

Sunday's show will be up soon.

Apologies for any sound problems but that's the nature of live shows sometimes.  We are a work in progress and Sunday's show is a little bit slicker.

Ben

No puns, just a place booked for Coventry!

April 9th, 2012

You know, if you are going to book yourself a slot in the semi-finals at the playoffs, the way to do it is on the back of home-leg shut-out and a thorough trouncing of your opponent.

Yeah, the Phoenix's performance this weekend means that many are now thinking of the boys as the favourites for the silverware at the weekend.  What's more, the level of confidence on all lines is at a record high for the season.  Of course, that might be down to the fact that this Sunday was the first time all of the Phoenix's roster were playing together.  Hard to believe that the Phoenix have been without a full squad all the way until now but it sure is good to see what they can do!

Don't forget to join us for the live shows at the weekend!

It’s the Fone, Beau and Lacho Show!

April 1st, 2012

A bumper show tonight featuring a post-game interview with Stephen Fone, Robert Lachowicz and David-Alexandre Beauregard!  Yep, you read that correctly.  Our former players just cannot stay away from the Altrincham Ice Dome.

Before we get to that, a period-by-period analysis of the game that saw Peterborough's season cut short and saw Phoenix concreted into the number two slot at the end of the regular season.

Not just that but tonight's game was played without Ladislav Haribin (another cameo in tonight's show) which means that Phoenix managed to reach number two without ever being able to ice a full roster this season.  Not bad going, eh?

Well, there are at least two more games to go as the Phoenix slug it out against the Swindon Wildcats next weekend.  That's a scary pairing as the Cats are more of a formidable opponent than their league position suggests.  Get your predictions in good and early for this one.

Many thanks to Nick Gresty who brought us all some Bara Brith.  For once, we were too busy talking hockey to scoff it but it might keep until the playoffs.  Who knows?

So, yeah.  Lacho and Beau have some words to say about the Squeelers not making the final weekend in the Elite League Playoffs (heheheheheeee!) and about Doubting Panthers Dave.  Not just that but they also give their views on Dave Simms' predictions a few years ago that no team would EVER win the Elite League with a British Netminder.  We always said that it would be Murphy who pulled it off and he has.  For once, our predictions were right.  Suck it up, Simmsy!

Anyway, enough of that.  We have some playoffs to get geared-up for and the Podcast Playoffs Live show is well on its way to being ready to go.  If you have missed the information about this, it's simple:  at midday on Playoffs Saturday, just go to www.manchesterphoenix.co.uk/podcast and follow the instructions.  Failing that, go to uStream from your PC, Mac or mobile and search for Manchester Phoenix.  Give yourself a few minutes before 12pm and just leave the page open.  The stream will start when we go live.  Same again for 1pm on the Sunday.

Bring it on Swindon!

Flames Neil Before The Phoenix

March 25th, 2012

Who would have thought it, eh?  A 4-point weekend from the boys against a hard-fighting Cats and a championship-winning Flames?  Even the most optomistic Phoenix fan would be hoping for a 2-pointer, you might think.

But the Phoenix really did pull it out of the bag this weekend.  The Cats took some beating but Phoenix scratched out that victory before heading home for one of the most masterful performances of the season against the Flames.

James Neil had a belter of a weekend with some silky skills moments against the Flames and three assists over the weekend.  He has also told us that he has his game face on in a big way for the playoffs.  Yep, you can listen to him declaring his intent to blow away the competition to pick up the silverware at Coventry on 15th April.

On the subject of the Playoffs, we can confirm that the Phoenix Podcast Live project is now set in stone.  The timetable is like this:-

Saturday live at 12pm

Sunday live at 1pm

We will be broadcasting from The Old Windmill on Spon Street in Coventry.  You can come and join us if you like or you can listen to the show on your computer by going to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/phoenix-live2 just before showtime.  If you have a smart phone, when we go live, you can find us on the uStream app too.  Just search for Manchester Phoenix and listen in.

Spread the word to your friends who are fans of other teams too.  We like to share the love!

Look out for a reminder of the webpage via our Twitter feed and on Facebook, closer to the time.
