The podcast goes international again this week with Ben Knight catching-up with Jaakko Hagelberg.

Surprisingly, Jaakko says that the Finnish hockey style is more in keeping with the North American style than people might think.

Naturally, the season in Germany when he picked up more penalty minutes than a left winger might ordinarily was down to the refs.

“Yeah, it was the refs. It was unfair calls every time!”

Despite being most comfortable in his left-wing position, Jaakko prides himself in being able to play wherever he is needed.

Despite having played for a Steelers side (the Bietigheim Steelers in the Bundesliga), Jaakko knows where he stands in relation to the team from over the hill:

Ben: You know that any team from Sheffield are the enemy? Jaakko: Yeah, I hate them too! Ben: That’s the right answer, my friend.

Jaakko might just be set to take the EPL by storm and, from the sounds of his approach to the game and to the forthcoming season, it seems that he is on target to become a fan-favourite from an early stage.

What with all the “trolling” going on in forumland, I thought it was about time to get the Phoenix GM on the show to see what he thought. Now, we know how much he loves the forums so you can find out here how he really feels about some of the suggestions made about what has been going on at Phoenix Towers.

This interview with AC deals with the suggestions that appeared on The Cage and our forum about Phoenix’s approach to marketing, rumours about various Italians and EPL-eligible North Americans and all sorts of interesting stuff.

This is a rare insight into what really happens during the closed-season…

Well, this has taken a couple of days to put up on account of technical issues with the host site. Never mind. It is sorted now.

There is a further podcast going up later in which Andy Costigan goes myth-busting and I bring you the latest in closed-season info.

This is editted slightly but is more-or-less the whole thing.

The meeting was not recorded but I caught-up with the Adams, the Grahams, Nigel MacFarlane and Tony Hand.

The Pussycats are through to the semi-finals at the NIC.

This is the last home-game edition of the show for this season though there will be a play-offs special and there will be news broken on the podcast during the summer. Keep an eye-out for new shows but I anticipate that this presenter will be taking a week or two off first!

Thank-you to all the listeners in the UK, USA, Canada, Italy (That’s you, Joe!), across Europe and China and…. everywhere else. It has been fun watching the locations of listeners appear in the stats.

BKO Cup 1st leg coverage

The usual cast of reprobates (Cookie, Nigel, Nate Ward and I) bring you the game coverage of the 1st leg clash.

This was an odd game but the Phoenix were giving Belfast a sincere run for their money.

Cookie calls someone a cheap-shot merchant and Nate Ward dedicates his winning league goal to his mummy (or his mom as she’s off of North America).

Exhausted Phoenix rattled by the snakes

The boys were tired and the Vipers came wanting it that bit more.

Not the best game of the season but three beautiful goals from Ward, Mulherin and Walker.

The podcast’s own Nate Ward picked-up the MOM award and told me what the state of mind in the squad is right now.

Belfast Giants get the sharp-end of the Phoenix’s beak.

Challenge Cup final action (1st leg) saw the Phoenix come out on top on Sunday night.

This was a spectacular game that saw Phoenix take a one-goal lead into the 2nd leg of the final over in Belfast. A packed Ice Dome felt like it could explode at any minute as the fans watched a game that truly had everything you would want to see in a hockey match.

As usual, I was on-hand with Cookie Monster, Tambo, Nigel and, of course, Nate Ward to soak-up the atmosphere and to bring you the blow-by-blow.

Yes, with so-called “Big Mac” and Payette coming to town, Brett wants to make a few things clear to the visitors. And you know that title - Hard As Ice? It’s his. Nobody else’s. Got that?

As for the clash with Coventry on Saturday, the Hit Man wants to let them know that the Phoenix are going to be coming out and giving it everything they have. The Blaze are going to be facing a Phoenix side on terrifying form in a clash that the boys WANT.

With this week’s podcast, I am really spoiling you. Now pass me a gold-wrapped nutty chocolate thingy. My cat likes the wrappers.
